Ministry expects to award 90% of EU funds by year-end

By the end of 2012 Poland will have absorbed 90% of the EU funds earmarked to the country within the 2007-2013 budget perspective, the Ministry of Regional Development announced. This means that the ministry will fulfill its plan for about PLN 50bn (€12.1m) in EU funds to be poured into the economy each year until the end of the current EU budget, said deputy regional development minister Adam Zdzieblo.

By 26 August the ministry has signed agreements with beneficiaries for PLN 214bn (€52bn) in EU grants, which represents 77% of the total allocation for the 2007-2013 period.

There are still substantial funds to be awarded in areas such as innovation, human capital development, maritime and intermodal transport, environmental infrastructure or culture.
