LFS unemployment rate down to 9.9% in Q2


The unemployment rate measured according to the Labour Force Survey (LFS) amounted to 9.9% in the second quarter of 2012, down by 0.6 p.p. compared with the preceding quarter and up by 0.4 p.p. from a year earlier, according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS).

During the analysed period, the total number of people out of work stood at just under 1.79 million, which represented a decrease of 95,000 from Q1 and an increase of 98,000 compared with the same period of 2011. Meanwhile, the employment rate amounted to 50.8%, up by 0.7 p.p. in relation to the previous quarter and by 0.1 p.p. year-on-year. At the same time, the number of economically inactive persons fell marginally compared with both Q1 2012 and with Q2 2011, to just below 13.9 million people. As a result, the economic activity rate increased by 0.4 p.p. to 56.4%.
