Government moves to simplify business registration process

2012-08-15

The government on 14 August approved a draft amendment to the Labour Code that shortens and simplifies the process of starting a business.

First, it cuts to just three days from 14 presently the maximum period within which the tax office must issue an official confirmation that the new company has been assigned a tax identification number (NIP), which will allow newly-started firms to begin operations quicker. Second, it abolishes the requirement for new companies to notify the National Labour Inspectorate (PIP) and the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS) about the nature, scope, and location of their activities. (Instead, the Inspectorates will receive the necessary data from the records of the Central Statistical Office and the Social Insurance Office).

According to the Government Information Centre, the proposed changes will reduce the number of business registration procedures by a third, from six to four, under the World Bank methodology.

The amendment will came into effect 14 days after its publication in the Journal of Laws.
