Privatisation revenues exceed PLN 7bn in January-July

Revenues from privatisation reached PLN 7.05bn (approx. €1.7bn) in the first seven months of 2012, according to latest data from the Ministry of the Treasury. The figure represents just over 70% of the annual plan of PLN 10bn (€2.4bn). It does not include the sale of the state’s residual stake in BGZ, the agricultural and retail bank, to Rabobank of the Netherlands for about PLN 800m (€189m), which was announced on 30 July.

In March the government approved a two-year privatisation programme worth PLN 15bn (€3.5bn) over 2012-2013 that envisions the sale of state holdings in 300 companies. The state is to retain a majority stake or effective control in a limited number firms deemed strategically important in sectors such as energy, financial services or defence.
