Global study shows resilience in Polish market for professionals and managers

2012-07-31

More than 50% companies in Poland are planning to hire at managerial and professional level in the third quarter of 2012, and the percentage rises to 70% in some sectors, results matched by few countries in the European Union, according to Global Snapshot, a quarterly global survey of hiring and firing trends by Antal International, an international executive recruitment firm.

The study shows that 53% of employees in Poland are intending to recruit managerial and professional staff in Q3, up by 1 p.p. from three months earlier, against 17% who say they are planning to let staff go during the next three months, up by two points. At the same time, the percentage saying they are currently hiring at managerial and professional level remained unchanged at 58%.

The most optimistic hiring intentions are reported in sectors attracting high levels of foreign direct investment, namely shared service centres/business process outsourcing (79% companies declaring hiring plans for Q3), IT (66%), and insurance (62%).

In the words of Artur Skiba, Managing Director of Antal International, even companies experiencing difficulties or undergoing restructuring are still searching for top staff to help lead them through change. A clear trend is for the recruitment process to take longer and be more painstaking and thorough than before.

Only three EU countries had higher percentages of firms planning to recruit in Q3, namely Ireland (63%), Czech Republic (57%), and Sweden (56%).

The latest, 12th edition of the survey is based on interviews with line and HR managers at 20,546 companies, professional partnerships and financial institutions in over 50 countries, conducted using CATI (Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing) and CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interviewing). The Polish part of the study was carried out in June and July 2012 with 1,994 companies.
