Valeo to expand two Malopolskie plants

Valeo, a global maker of automotive components and systems, plans to invest nearly PLN 130m (approx. €31.2m) in new capacity at its factories in Skawina and Chrzanow (both in Malopolskie) over the next two years, Puls Biznesu has learnt. The news comes three months after the group received approval for an expansion of its manufacturing complex in Czechowice-Dziedzice (Slaskie voivodship), in the Katowice Special Economic Zone, bringing the total value of planned investments at Valeo’s Polish plants to almost PLN 250m (€60.1m) over 2012-2014.

The investment at the Skawina plant, which makes engine cooling systems and wipers, is worth PLN 92.6m (€22.3m) and is expected to create 433 new jobs, including 80 for university graduates. Valeo’s application for a government grant in support of the project has already been approved, according to unofficial sources. The investment at the Chrzanow plant, which makes car lamps, is worth PLN 37.1m (€8.9m). It will create 80 new jobs at the factory’s R&D unit as part of a project to develop new laser welding technologies for making lamps. Both projects are to be part of the Krakow Special Economic Zone.

In April Valeo announced plans to invest PLN 115m (€27.6m) in new production and R&D capacity at its factory of starters, alternators, AC compressors, and sub-assemblies in Czechowice-Dziedzice, which will result in the creation of 400 new jobs.

Paris-based Valeo employs 68,000 people at 124 production sites, 21 research centres, 40 development centres and 12 distribution platforms in 28 countries worldwide.
