MAN to cut 8% jobs in Starachowice?

MAN, the German bus and truck maker, has notified trade unions about plans of substantial job cuts at its bus factory in Starachowice (Swietokrzyskie voivodship), reported.

In a letter to unions, MAN outlined a lay-off programme that will affect 230-240 jobs, which represents approximately 8% of the plant’s total workforce of about 3,000. The group blamed slumping demand for new buses amid a deteriorating global economy.

According to sources cited by Rzeczpospolita, current output at the Starachowice factory, at 8-10 buses per day, is 30-40% below the original plan of 14 vehicles.
