Balcerowicz is New NBP President. On December ?, 2000, Leszek Balcerowicz was chosen as the new president of the National Bank of Poland (NBP). Balcerowicz Resigns as UW Leader. After the President chose Leszek Balcerowicz, the leader of the Freedom Union (Unia WolnoĹci, UW), as a candidate for the post of National Bank president, he resigned the party leadership. BronisĹaw Geremek was elected the new party leader during the 16-17 December UW congress. Winkler Appointed new Silesia Voivodship President. On December 9 2000 Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek appointed professor Wilibard Winkler as Silesia Voivodship president. The former president, Marek Kempski, resigned following suspected corruption at the Voivodship Office. Forty-two Hour Working Week to Stay. The Polish Sejm has decided that the working week in Poland will stay at 42 hours in 2001. Wages will not change. From January 1 2000 the working week will last five days at a maximum of 10 hours a day.
