Poland: Political Update


  1. Polski Cukier (Polish Sugar) To Be Established. The Sejm has voted in an act regarding the sugar market. An amendment which required setting up of Polski Cukier was accepted. A holding is to be made from all the remaining non-privatised sugar plants.
  2. The Act On Telecommunications to be changed. The European Commission has stated that the Polish act on telecommunications must be changed to conform to European Union law.
  3. SLD-UP Coalition Wins Entry Elections. Entry Sejm elections have been held in Nysa. The Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) and Labor Union (UP) coalition won 46.5% of votes. It was followed by the Civil Forum (Platforma Obywatelska) that gained 16.6% of votes. The Solidarity Electoral Action (AWS) was ranked third with 7.6% of votes.
