LiuGong starts assembling excavators in Stalowa Wola

2012-05-10

Guangxi LiuGong Machinery on 9 May launched the assembly of tracked loaders and wheeled excavators at Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW), the state-owned maker of earth-moving equipment that it acquired from the Polish government in January. The machines are based on Chinese-made components and are bound for export to Russian-speaking countries. HSW will shortly start making LiuGong machines for the domestic and EU markets as well, said Miroslaw Sroka, Production and Logistics Manager. He added that a scheme has already been initiated to relocate production of the sub-assemblies to Poland, to be made either by HSW itself or by local suppliers.

Over the next five years LiuGong plans to raise output at HSW dramatically to 3,000 vehicles a year, of which 50% are to be sold in the EU, including Poland. The Stalowa Wola plant will also host the group’s European R&D centre.

HSW is LiuGong’s first manufacturing site in the European Union. The PLN 280m (approx. €66.4m) acquisition is the largest foreign direct investment in Poland by a Chinese firm.

LiuGong is the 16th biggest maker of construction machinery in the world. It employs about 13,000 people.
