German engine systems group to build €90m plant in Zachodniopomorskie

2012-03-16

Tognum, a global supplier of engines and propulsion systems for off-highway applications, on 15 March announced an investment of over €90m to erect a production and R&D complex in Stargard Szczecinski (Zachodniopomorskie voivodship), in the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone.

The facility will make components for Tognum’s MTU brand engines and develop new mechanical and electronic components and modules for engine control and automation systems. It is due to start operations in the second half of 2013. By the time the factory becomes fully operational in 2015 it is expected to employ 210 workers.

In a statement, Tognum notes that Stargard Szczecinski was selected due to its “tremendous potential in terms of specialists and the proximity to logistics hubs, such as major seaports”. Tognum will relocate to Stargard part of its production from its largest plant in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance.

Ulrich Dohle, Executive Board Member for Technology & Operations and Deputy Chairman at Tognum Group, said that by expanding its production capacity in Poland the company created a fundamental requirement for future growth, as its existing production facilities in Germany, the USA and China would not be enough. The new plant in Poland also represented a key element of the group's global expansion strategy, he added.

As of 31 December 2011 Tognum employed 9,821 people.
