HP mulls opening new service centre in Poland

Poland is on a short-list of candidate locations for a new service centre planned by Hewlett-Packard (HP), the US computer group, Puls Biznesu has learnt. HP is considering three countries in Central and Eastern Europe, namely Poland, Bulgaria and Romania, as well as India, and a final decision is expected in the first half of the year, Jacek Levernes, Vice-President HP Global Business Services for Europe, Middle East & Africa told the newspaper.

Mr. Levernes revealed that the new unit would be responsible for more innovation-intensive business processes than HP’s existing two facilities in Poland, and that it is one of the most technologically advanced global projects currently in the pipeline. The centre is expected to employ between 200 and 500 people. Mr. Levernes noted that the project might be divided between two locations. He declined to identify the cities in Poland that are being considered as potential sites for the facility, but they are understood to include, on the one hand, big cities such as Wroclaw, Lodz and Gdansk, and on the other, less popular regional cities such as Szczecin, Rzeszow or Bialystok.

Poland’s major strengths from HP’s perspective is the quality and productivity of local staff as well as the availability of EU grants of up to 30% of the project’s value.
