AgustaWestland to add 250 jobs at PZL-Swidnik

2012-01-17

AgustaWestland, the world’s second-largest helicopter maker, plans to hire 250 workers at its subsidiary in Swidnik (Lubelskie voivodship) in the course of this year, helped by new major orders from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Nicola Bianco, Managing Director of PZL-Swidnik, told Polish Press Agency.

The total value of new MoD contracts won by PZL-Swidnik is estimated at PLN 380m (approx. €86m) over the next three years. They include the delivery of five new W-3WA Sokol helicopters with VIP configurations and the modernisation and/or upgrade of six Sokol helicopters and eight Mi-2 helicopters already used by the army.

In 2011 PZL-Swidnik also took on about 250 new workers. According to the official statement announcing the new contracts, at present the Swidnik plant employs about 3,500 people.

Mr. Bianco revealed that the company signed contracts worth PLN 1.2bn (€272m) last year and generated revenues of about PLN 500m (€113m), though it remained in the red due to past financial problems dating back to its pre-privatisation days and to the costs of new investments.

The Anglo-Italian company acquired PZL-Swidnik in January 2010.
