Polish BPO sector to add 20,000 jobs by 2013

2012-01-11

Employment in Poland’s business process outsourcing (BPO) sector will hit 100,000 by 2013 from approximately 80,000 at the moment, as many of the country’s 300 BPO centres expand and new are being established, according to forecasts by the Association of Business Service Leaders in Poland (ABSL), a BPO industry group, quoted by Rzeczpospolita.

The Association gives examples of hiring plans by major outsourcing firms present in Poland. Capgemini, for instance, expects to add up to 500 jobs in the country by the end of this year, Infosys is to hire 300 new staff, Arvato and Fujitsu Technology Solutions will take on 150 people each, and Mellon Poland about 100 .

At present the Polish BPO sector is dominated by finance & bookkeeping centres and IT service centres. There is also a degree of geographical specialisation, with finance & bookkeeping centres clustering in Warsaw, Lodz and Poznan, IT centres in Krakow and the Tricity, while Wroclaw attracting R&D centres.

The country is benefiting from economic uncertainty in Western Europe and from nearshoring by companies from France, Germany or Great Britain, according to the ABSL. It is also expected to attract a rising number of knowledge-intensive projects.
