LSSE sums up a successful 2011, expects solid 2012

The Lodz Special Economic Zone (LSSE) published final statistics for 2011, a year that saw it attract more projects than any other of the country’s 14 Special Economic Zones and with a total value a fifth higher than in 2010; and said it was targeting an increase in the value of new investments in 2012, helped by promotional efforts and the addition of new sites.

The LSSE secured a total 22 projects in 2011, down from 25 in 2010, including 15 by new investors and seven reinvestments. Their combined value is PLN 829.5m (approx. €184.3m), an increase of 18% over 2010 and giving the zone fourth place. The number of new jobs to be created by these projects is 1,202, down by 14% on 2010 but more than in any other zone except one. Furthermore, the number of existing jobs that will be safeguarded thanks to the new investments, at 2,887, is more than three times higher than in 2010.

There are already several "very promising" projects in the pipeline for 2012, both from potential new entrants and existing investors, and the target is to increase the value of investments compared with 2011, said CEO Tomasz Sadzynski.

The LSSE will spend substantial sums on advertising and promotional campaigns in Poland and Germany this year, and will place a stronger focus on attracting small and medium enterprises. As part of the latter, it is considering a plan to invest in the construction of small production halls to be rented out to SME investors. And in March it will file for a further expansion of its area.
