Global leader acquires Poland’s no. 1 pharma compounding firm

2011-12-27

Fagron, the pharmaceutical compounding unit of Arseus, an Euronext-listed supplier of products, services and concepts for the healthcare sector, on 27 December announced that it has agreed to acquire Pharma Cosmetic, the number one supplier of pharmaceutical raw materials for compounding pharmacies in Poland. The value of the deal was not disclosed. Fagron will consolidate Pharma Cosmetic’s results already from 1 January 2012.

Ger van Jeveren, the CEO of Fagron, commented that Pharma Cosmetic "has developed strongly in recent years", had an "excellent track record and organisational quality", and that the takeover represented another major step in Fagron’s ongoing drive to build and strengthen "global leadership in the rapidly growing niche market of pharmaceutical compounding". With the Pharma Cosmetic acquisition, the Belgian group is now present in 24 countries on three continents (Europe and North and South America).

Katarzyna Adamowicz, representing Pharma Cosmetic’s former owners, said that the Polish firm was a perfect match for Fagron and that the merger brought promising opportunities for Pharma Cosmetic, its customers and employees.

Krakow-based Pharma Cosmetic specialises in the manufacture and distribution of pharmaceutical raw materials for drug compounding at community and hospital pharmacies, as well as raw materials for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Its main product categories include general use substances, ointment bases, eye drops preservatives, oils, and tinctures. The company has 64 employees and in 2011 expects to generate revenues of €7.5m from sales to around 13,000 pharmacies and pharmaceutical wholesalers in Poland.
