China’s ICBC considers entering Poland

Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), one of the largest banks in the world, plans to establish a direct presence in Poland, President Bronislaw Komorowski revealed at a news conference in Beijing on 21 December. According to Jerzy Osiatynski, the president’s economic adviser, during talks with the Polish delegation ICBC officials expressed an interest in gaining exposure to all major types of financial instruments in Poland, including loans, bonds and other debt securities.

Developing closer business ties with China is at the heart of President Komorowski’s visit to the country, the first for a Polish head of state in 14 years. On 20 December he and the Chinese President Hu Jintao signed a "strategic partnership", placing Poland among seven EU countries to have relations with China on this level.
