SEZ expect rise in new project volumes and values, decline in pledged jobs for 2011

The number of permits issued by Poland’s 14 Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in the course of 2011 is expected to reach 194, up from 179 in 2010, and the value of declared investments is forecast to be 40% higher than last year, at nearly PLN 7.7bn (approx. €1.7bn), according to a survey by Puls Biznesu. At the same time, the number of pledged jobs is projected to be 8,114, compared with 12,600 last year.

By 13 December the figures stood at 169 projects, PLN 6.82bn (€1.49bn) and 6,936 jobs. The Walbrzych zone is currently the leader in all three categories. It leads in terms of new projects (19), followed by Katowice, Kostrzyn-Slubice, Lodz and Mielec (18), though it is likely to be overtaken by the Lodz zone by the end of the year (22 to Walbrzych’s 21). It is boasts the biggest number of pledged jobs (1,500), and is expected to remain at the top for 2011 as a whole (1,600), followed by Lodz (1,016 by 13 December, expected to rise to 1,227). And it has the highest declared value of new investment projects (PLN 1.4bn or €306m, expected to reach PLN 1.5bn or €328m by year-end), with the Kostrzyn-Slubice zone in close second (PLN 1.38bn or €302m; PLN 1.45bn or €317m).
