Registered unemployment rate steady at 11.8% in October

The registered unemployment rate stood at 11.8% at the end of October, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported. This is unchanged from September but 0.3 p.p. higher than in the corresponding month of the previous year.

In the analysed period, nearly 1.87 million Poles were registered as unemployed, an increase of 5,900 in relation to one month earlier and of 49,000 versus October 2010. The highest unemployment rates were noted in the voivodships of Warminsko-Mazurskie (18.9%), Zachodniopomorskie (16.6%), Kujawsko-Pomorskie (16%), Podkarpackie (14.9%), Lubuskie and Swietokrzyskie (14.5%). The lowest rates were recorded in Wielkopolskie (8.6%), Mazowieckie (9.5%), Slaskie (9.7%) and Malopolskie (9.9%).

GUS data also showed a significant decline in the number of job offers submitted to labour offices. At 54,900 the October figure was 20.4% lower than in September and 38.2% lower than a year earlier.

We forecast that by the end of 2011 the registered unemployment rate will increase to 12.4%.
