PLN 22.5bn central budget deficit at the end of October

In the first 10 months of 2011 the central budget showed a deficit of just over PLN 22.5bn (approx. €5.6bn), which represents 56.1% of the figure planned for the entire year, according to estimates from the Ministry of Finance.

State budget revenues amounted to nearly PLN 231.9bn (€57.2bn) during this period, while expenditures slightly exceeded PLN 254.4bn (€62.8bn), which translates into 84.9% and 81.2% of the entire year’s plan, respectively.

The 2011 budget bill provides for a deficit of PLN 40.2bn (€9.9bn), though the Ministry of Finance has indicated – and the January-October data appear to be a further sign – that the full-year deficit figure is likely to be lower.

By way of comparison, in 2010 the central budget closed with a deficit of just under PLN 44.6bn (€11.2bn), which represented 85.4% of the official plan.
