Poland promoted to top tier of global BPO/IT service destinations

Everest Group, a global management consultancy, has upgraded Poland to the category of "mature locations" for BPO and IT centre investment, an elite group of four (now five) countries that are home to 50 or more BPO/IT centres belonging to top multinational corporations. Poland is the first and only Central and Eastern European country to make the list, which also includes India, China, the Philippines and Brazil, confirming its status as the most attractive destination for BPO/IT investment in the region.

In its latest Global Location Insights, Everest Group says the country accounts for almost one-fourth of the global services market in Central and Eastern Europe and is enjoying double-digit growth, thanks to steady interest among buyers and service providers in business processes and IT services. According to the company, Poland has distinctive strengths in finance and accounting as well as IT Application Development and Maintenance (ADM) support. The main sources of its appeal are availability of high quality talent pool with strong language skills, time zone proximity, cultural affinity to Western Europe, macroeconomic and regulatory environment, and cost savings with respect to Western Europe.

Everest Group ranks countries that are potential or actual destinations for BPO/IT service investment into five categories: "no major activity" (0-5 centres), "nascent locations" (5-15 centres), "emerging locations" (15-50 centres) and "mature locations" (>50 centres).

The number of BPO/IT centres in Poland belonging to leading multinationals currently stands at 55, according to the report (the total number of foreign-owned BPO/IT centres in Poland is 282, according to ABSL, the trade body for the Polish BPO sector).
