Samsung sets up R&D operation in Poznan

Samsung Electronics on 24 October opened a new research and development (R&D) centre in Poznan. The facility operates as a unit of the group’s R&D Centre in Warsaw, which is currently Samsung’s biggest R&D operation in Europe.

Adam Ros, head of the R&D Centre, said that in the initial phase the Poznan unit would employ at least 40 engineers, mainly graduates of the Poznan University of Technology. Initially it will focus on developing software applications for digital TV and mobile phones, including the new Samsung Smart TV platform, but its scope of operations is expected to expand in the future.

The Warsaw centre has grown to 800 staff since its establishment in 2000. In early October S.P. Kim, CEO of Samsung Europe, announced plans to increase that number by 30-40% within one to two years, taking its total headcount above the 1,000 mark.
