Warsaw advances in European cities ranking

Warsaw moved three places to 21st among the most attractive European cities for business, and ranks first in terms of the cost-to-quality ratio of office space, according to the European Cities Monitor 2011, an annual survey by Cushman and Wakefield, the property consultants.

The survey is based on interviews with executives in charge for location at 501 of Europe’s largest companies, and covers 36 locations in Europe. Warsaw improved its ranking on eight out of the 12 indicators making up the index, though there are very considerable differences in its performance on the various parameters. Thus the Polish capital ranks second on labour costs, third among cities favoured for expansion over the next five years, and fifth on investment climate. By contrast, the quality of its transport and telecom infrastructure give it 28-29th place, and on quality of life and environmental issues it comes 32nd and 34th, respectively.

As in 2010, London tops the ranking, followed by Paris and Frankfurt. Among cities in Central and Eastern Europe, Prague ranks 25th, Bucharest 27th, Budapest 29th, Bratislava 32nd, and Moscow 33rd.
