Air Products to build €10m CO2 plant in Tarnow

Air Products, the NYSE-listed manufacturer of industrial gases, announced that it will invest €10m to build a modern CO2 liquefaction plant in Tarnow (Malopolskie voivodship). The facility will be located at the manufacturing complex of Zaklady Azotowe Tarnow (ZAT), the state-owned chemicals group, which will supply the raw CO2 to be processed by Air Products. It is expected to be launched in the summer of 2012.

Graham Rhodes, Air Products Vice President, said the investment would strengthen the group’s position as a leading supplier of CO2 on the Polish market. It will result in a significant increase in its CO2 purification and liquefaction capacity in the country, with total daily output of 200 tons, and will allow Air Products to respond swiftly to market needs, at a time when demand for the gas is rising steadily. The plant will serve sector such as carbonated drinks and horticulture.

The news comes three months after Air Products announced plans to construct a PLN 5m (approx. €1.2m) gas filling plant in Warsaw, its fifth such facility in Poland, to serve its customers in the northern and northeastern parts of the country. Both projects are part of a drive to increase the group’s exposure to the Polish market.
