Jula to open first DIY stores in Poland in November

2011-10-11

Swedish DIY retailer Jula will enter the Polish market next month with the opening of two "multimarkets" in Warsaw, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reported. It will be the first step in an ambitious expansion programme that envisions the launch of a further six stores in some of the country’s other major cities in the course of 2012.

The first of the store-openings planned in 2012 will be in Wroclaw in the spring, followed by Gdansk, Lodz and Lublin in the summer, and later Gliwice and Szczecin.

It will be Jula’s first foray outside Scandinavia. At present the group has stores in Sweden and Norway.

In an interview with Retail Update Poland in July, Daniel Adamiuk, Country Manager for Poland at Jula, said the group decided to expand into Poland because of the country’s growing and increasingly affluent consumer market, geographical proximity, and the absence on the Polish DIY market of a proposition similar to Jula’s. He stressed that Jula’s multimarket concept differed from the DIY hypermarket format common in Poland in that it offered a more varied selection of products in a friendlier environment. Its product mix includes e.g. tools and machinery, building and installation materials, paints, lighting products, work clothing, health and safety supplies, gardening and automotive accessories, but also household appliances and consumer electronics.
