Dolby to locate R&D centre in Poland?

Dolby Laboratories, the US maker of audio, imaging and voice technologies, is considering plans to locate a research and development (R&D) facility in Poland, as it widens its focus from India and China to Central and Eastern Europe, Puls Biznesu has learnt. Following a screening exercise (which included site visits to Poland), an initial list of potential locations has reportedly been reduced to a short-list of four, which includes Wroclaw, the Tricity area, as well as Budapest and Vilnius. A final decision is expected in a matter of weeks.

The facility would bring several dozen jobs. According to the newspaper, Dolby plans to apply for a government grant in support of the project.

Dolby is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In its last fiscal year (ending in September 2010) the San Francisco-based company reported revenues of $923m (approx. €674m). As of September 2009 it had 1,135 employees worldwide.
