Brussels OKs Dalkia’s takeover of Warsaw heat supplier SPEC

The European Commission has given the go-ahead for Dalkia, the integrated European energy and utilities provider, to acquire 85% of shares in SPEC, the municipal thermal energy provider in the Warsaw area that operates the largest heat supply system in the European Union. The value of the transaction, which was agreed in July, is PLN 1.44bn (approx. €330m).

Dalkia Polska is the number one private operator of municipal thermal power networks in Poland, with a presence in 40 cities. The acquisition of SPEC will more than double its market share to 25% from 11% at the moment. The company is also the third-biggest player in the Polish market for co-generation, through combined heat and power plants in Lodz and Poznan. It employs 4,500 people.
