Net financial result of enterprises up by 34.3% y-o-y in H1

In the first half of 2011 the net financial result of non-financial enterprises employing 50 or more people amounted to nearly PLN 56.2bn (approx. €14.2bn), which represented an increase of 34.3% compared with the same period of the previous year, according to research carried out by the Central Statistical Office (GUS).

During the analysed period, revenues of enterprises from all operations amounted to almost PLN 1.073bn (€271.3bn), i.e. 12.1% higher than in the corresponding period of 2010. As costs rose at a slower rate (by 11% y-o-y), the sector’s net profit margin increased to 5.2% from 4.4%. There was also an improvement in corporate liquidity: the first-degree liquidity ratio amounted to 37.7%, up from 37.5% a year earlier.

In H1 2011 about 68.8% of all non-financial enterprises posted a net profit, up from 67.8% a year earlier. In manufacturing the share of profitable firms rose more significantly – from 70.1% to 72.8%.

The percentage of exporting firms in the overall population of companies fell slightly, to 45.9% from 46.5%, in H1 2010. The share of profitable exporters was 73.6%, up from 71.2% a year earlier.

The survey covered 16,986 businesses employing 50 or more people, drawn from all sectors with the exception of agriculture, hunting, forestry, fishing, financial intermediation and higher education.
