Registered unemployment rate drops to 11.7% in July

The registered unemployment rate stood at 11.7% at the end of July, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported. This was down by 0.1 p.p. compared to June, but 0.2 p.p. higher than in the corresponding month of the previous year.

In the analysed period, just over 1.86 million Poles were registered as unemployed, a decline of 20,100 in relation to one month earlier and an increase of 50,400 versus July 2010. The highest unemployment rates were noted in the voivodships of Warminsko-Mazurskie (18.4%), Zachodniopomorskie (16.1%), Kujawsko-Pomorskie (15.6%), Podkarpackie (15.1%), Lubuskie (14.6%) and Swietokrzyskie (14.2%). The lowest rates were recorded in Wielkopolskie (8.5%), Mazowieckie (9.3%), Slaskie (9.6%) and Malopolskie (9.8%).

At the same time, GUS data showed a decrease in the number of job offers submitted to labour offices during the month, in both annual and monthly terms. At 63,100, the July figure was 7.6% lower than in June, and 30.2% lower year-on-year.
