Poland’s GDP per head rises to 62% of EU average in 2010

Poland’s GDP per capita (adjusted for purchasing power standards, PPS) reached 62% of the EU average at the end of 2010, up from 61% a year earlier, according to latest data from Eurostat, the European Union’s statistical office. The advance reflects Poland’s stronger macroeconomic performance relative to the EU as a whole, although it is smaller than the five-point leap that the country achieved in 2009, when its economy was the only one in the EU to avoid a recession.

With GDP per capita at 62% of the average, Poland stayed in 23rd place among the Union’s 27 economies at the end of 2010. The Czech Republic ranked 19th with 80% of the EU27 average, down two points; Slovakia came 20th with 74%, up one point; while Hungary ranked 22nd at 64%, down one point.
