Employment up by 3.6% y-o-y in May


Average monthly employment in the enterprise sector amounted to a little over 5.51 million people in May, an increase of 3.6% in comparison with the corresponding period of 2010, according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS). The result was below market expectations, which were for an increase of 3.8% y-o-y.

On a month-on-month basis employment remained broadly unchanged (during the analysed period there were approximately 400 fewer people in work compared with April). In the 12 months to May, average employment in the enterprise sector has risen by around 193,800.

In the January-May period average monthly employment in the enterprise sector grew by 3.9% y-o-y.
