Rolls-Royce expands in Poland

Rolls-Royce, the UK power systems company, on 10 June inaugurated a Marine Service Centre (MSC) in Gdynia, its first such facility in the Baltic region. It will provide repair and maintenance services for Rolls-Royce marine propulsion systems, as well as lead marketing, sales and the supply of new marine equipment and spare parts for the Baltic area. The value of the project is €5m.

The Gdynia centre at present employs 50 people, including 41 engineers and technical staff. The number is to rise to 70-80 or more in the near future, including 30 on site and up to 50 mobile service engineers.

The inauguration of the centre coincided with the launch of Rolls-Royce Poland, which will coordinate the group's activity in the country. MSC is based on an existing office in Gdynia which Rolls-Royce opened in 2000.

Martin Hall, Rolls-Royce Senior Vice President Europe – Services said the decision to develop a large facility in Gdynia, one of the Baltic's busiest ports, reflected the importance of the Polish market for Rolls-Royce.

According to ZMPG, the operator of the Gdynia harbour, the opening of the centre will enhance the port's international standing and might bring new business and jobs to the city.

Meanwhile, Paul Kaye, Rolls-Royce Director for Central and Eastern Europe, revealed in an interview with Puls Biznesu that the group was about to open a shared service centre in Krakow employing 50 staff.

Rolls-Royce also owns a factory of equipment for ships and oil rigs in Gniew (Pomorskie voivodship), which employs 200 people.
