Net financial result of enterprises up by 20% y-o-y in Q1


In the first quarter of 2011 the net financial result of non-financial enterprises employing 50 or more people amounted to PLN 22bn (approx. €5.6bn), which represented an increase of 20.1% compared with the same period of the previous year, according to research carried out by the Central Statistical Office (GUS).

During the analysed period, revenues of enterprises from all operations amounted to almost PLN 512.8bn (€129.9bn), i.e. 12% higher than in the corresponding period of 2010. As costs rose at a slower rate (by 11.6% y-o-y), the sector’s net profit margin increased to 4.3% from 4%. There was also an improvement in corporate liquidity: the first-degree liquidity ratio amounted to 38.9%, up from 38.7% a year earlier.

In Q1 2011 about 61.6% of all non-financial enterprises posted a net profit, up from 60.2% a year earlier. In manufacturing the share of profitable firms rose more significantly, to 68.1% from 64.2%.

The percentage of exporting firms in the overall population of companies fell slightly to 44.2% from 44.5% in Q1 2010. The share of profitable exporters was 69.2%, up from 65.5% a year earlier.

The survey covered 16,545 businesses employing 50 or more people, drawn from all sectors with the exception of agriculture, hunting, forestry, fishing, financial intermediation and higher education.
