Car production to return to positive growth in 2011

Production of passenger cars and trucks in Poland is poised to reverse its downward trend this year, though it will remain below pre-crisis levels, according to a new forecast from The company estimates that some 897,000-904,000 vehicles will roll off production lines in Poland in 2011, an increase of 4.1-4.9% compared with last year. This will still be lower than the record 931,000 cars produced in 2008. It will also be less than car volumes in the Czech Republic, where production is forecast to top 1 million cars.

However, it should be noted that the increase will be achieved despite the closure in February of one of Poland’s four car factories, FSO in Warsaw.

Fiat will remain the number one car maker in Poland, with 535,000-538,000 vehicles expected to leave its factory in Tychy, a marginal increase over 2010. Opel’s plant in Gliwice will see a bigger increase, to 180,000 cars by some estimates (up by 13%), and so will Volkswagen’s plant in Poznan, where output is to rise by about 18% to 176,000-178,000.
