Wage growth slows to 4.5% y-o-y in Q1


The average gross monthly wage in the national economy amounted to just over PLN 3,466 (approx. €878) in the first quarter of 2011, which is 4.5% higher in nominal terms compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported. The figure marks a deceleration in wage growth from 6% y-o-y in Q4 2010.

Allowing for inflation, real wage growth in Poland was about 0.7% y-o-y during the three months to March, against 3.2% y-o-y in Q4.

By way of comparison, in 2010 as a whole the average gross monthly wage in the national economy rose by 4% at current prices, which in real terms translated into growth of 1.5%.
