Intel expands Gdansk R&D centre

Intel, the US technology firm, is adding jobs at its research and development (R&D) centre in Gdansk, Puls Biznesu reported. At the moment the company is recruiting 39 new staff to join a team working on next-generation graphics driver software. It is one of the centre’s prime focus areas, with a third of its total workforce of 600 engineers already engaged in it. The objective is to enable the software to run on smartphones and tablets, and on other operating systems than Windows, such as Linux.

Earlier this year the Gdansk centre was awarded an EU grant of PLN 29.8m (approx. €7.5m) from the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP), to pay for new equipment and staff for the graphics driver software project. The facility is also working on new software for remote management of server or storage systems, for example.

The Gdansk centre is the second-biggest of Intel’s 23 R&D centres in Europe.
