Net financial result of enterprises up by 13% in 2010

In 2010 the net financial result of non-financial enterprises employing 50 or more people amounted to PLN 89.4bn (approx. €22.4bn), which represented an increase of 13.4% compared with the previous year, according to research carried out by the Central Statistical Office (GUS). In 2009 the improvement was almost twice bigger (25.1%).

During the analysed period, revenues of enterprises from all operations amounted to just under PLN 2,030bn (€508.1bn), i.e. 5% higher than in 2009. As costs rose at a slower rate (4.6%), the sector’s net profit margin increased to 4.4% from 4.1%. Last year also brought a further improvement in corporate liquidity: the first-degree liquidity ratio amounted to 39.7%, up from 38.5%.

In 2010, about 78.4% of all non-financial enterprises posted a net profit, up from 77.3% the year before. In manufacturing the percentage of profitable firms rose to 77.1% from 74.3%. The share of exporting firms in the overall population of companies declined further, to 47.4% from 49.6%. The share of profitable firms among exporters was 78.9%, up from 76.3%.

The survey covered 17,525 businesses employing 50 or more people, drawn from all sectors with the exception of agriculture, hunting, forestry, fishing, financial and insurance services and institutions of higher education.
