Rise in registered unemployment expected in upcoming months

The Polish labour market has so far shown relatively strong resistance to the crisis compared with other countries, but it should be remembered that there tends to be a certain time lag between cyclical phases and labour market adjustments. Furthermore, we are entering a period when many seasonal jobs disappear, which typically leads to a surge in unemployment registrations at labour offices. Therefore we expect a stronger increase in the registered unemployment rate in the coming months. According to our forecasts, by the end of 2009 the registered unemployment rate will exceed 12%.
