Jabil to build PLN 170m solar batteries plant in Kwidzyn?

Jabil Circuit, a US electronic manufacturing services provider, plans to invest PLN 167m (approx. €42m) to build a plant making photovoltaic batteries at its factory in Kwidzyn (Pomorskie voivodship), Puls Biznesu reported. The company is awaiting decision on a PLN 50m (€12.6m) EU grant from the Ministry of Economy to help finance the project.

In addition to creating new jobs, the investment is also crucial for protecting existing jobs at the Kwidzyn complex, at a time when Jabil’s core business of making TV sets, LCD panels, or backplanes is going through a softer patch (the company entered the solar energy sector two years ago).

The Kwidzyn complex consists of three plants and employs 4,000 people. In December Jabil warned that it might axe even up to 1,500 jobs this year to adapt to lower orders.
